Surf & Seagulls, Pigeon Point Light
Subject: Pigeons have nothing to do with it. A sailing ship named the Pigeon foundered on this outcrop and the light was consequently constructed. A classic lighthouse profile, currently being restored.
Photo: The setting sun glints off the wave crests and rocks as large numbers of seabirds head for overnight roosts. Only in the evening does this southerly perspective offer advantaged light - otherwise the lighthouse is back-lit by difficult sun angles and the foreground water tends to be washed out.
