Gated Cafe, Vieux Montreal
About the Subject: A passageway, originally built to give access for horse-drawn carriages, now a café with an elaborate entrance gate.
About the Capture: Taken in the morning, in early Spring, this semi-alfresco café reaches through the passageway, lined with exposed brick and stone, to an inner courtyard. The gate is welcomingly ajar. The rich textures and earthy colours give a sense of warmth despite being in the open air while the heavy stone construction and wrought iron gates impart a feeling of strength and substance. The presentation in this capture accentuates the colours, contrasts, strength and inviting warmth of the scene.
